Design for reliability
Improved reliability allows a longer warranty to be offered.
Macom Technologies Ltd is a leading electronic engineering company that designs, tests and manufactures innovative Condition Monitoring systems to enhance the reliability and durability of process machinery.
One of Macom's products is used to monitor the lubricant quality in a process situated in a remote location which is difficult to access. Failure of the product incurs considerable cost to the customer in process downtime. A more reliable product with a longer mean time to failure to would allow Macom to enter global markets.
A "Design for Reliability" course was developed by DMEM and delivered to Macom's management team to allow them to develop an improved product design process. This will allow them to increase the warranty given on their products from the current one year period to five years.
Support will be given by academics as new products are developed to allow effective knowledge transfer to take place.
